Mr. Matt McHenry Biography
Matt McHenry has joined the Pride and legend that is Ringgold Marching Tiger Band and the Ringgold High School Symphonic Concert Bands in his first year teaching for Ringgold for the 26-27 School year and season.
A native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Matt McHenry is currently in his first year as band director at
Ringgold High School, overseeing the Ringgold Marching Tiger Band, Symphonic Band, and
Royal Blues jazz band. Prior to coming to Ringgold, he taught for more than twenty years in
East Tennessee: five years as head band director at McMinn County High School and earlier,
sixteen years as band director at Hixson High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he
directed the Marching, Symphonic, and Jazz Bands, taught Advanced Placement Music Theory,
and served as Music Department Head. An active member of the East Tennessee band
community, he served as ETSBOA Jazz Chair and Ensemble Coordinator for the Tennessee All
State Jazz Band.
Mr. McHenry holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental Music Education and a Master of
Arts in Music Education, both from Middle Tennessee State University. As a Graduate Teaching
Assistant at MTSU, he assisted with the Band of Blue and directed the Basketball Pep Band. He
is a member of NAfME, GMEA, ASBDA, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and was a 1998 member of
Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps. He enjoys cooking, Nashville Predators hockey and
playing Solo Eb Horn in the Jericho Brass Band in Chattanooga.
